I’m a Floridian, so when it comes to Hurricane Dorian and all the scaremongering going on I’ve been like
HOWEVER, among all of the tips and survival tidbits flying around there is ONE fact that I’ve not seen going around, and I realized it after I had to inform my Dad of this; I’ve told my friends, and now I’m going to tell you
IT IS 100% ILLEGAL FOR A BUSINESS TO PRICE GOUGE DURING A STATE OF EMERGENCY
This applies to both retail stores, gas stations, and hotels
If your local store is trying to rip you off by charging 20$ for a case of water you CAN report them!
If you’re in Florida and you know a store that is trying to rip people off, call this number
The only wiggle room on this is if the business can justify the price due to wholesale costs increasing around the same time. Gas stations get a little more breathing room on this since gas prices are always changing. So if a gas station charges 20 cents more you might not have a case, but if they’re charging DOLLARS more then you got something there
Don’t let people rip you off you’re just trying to survive this storm, you have rights
